What is the best brand of RAM to use in a new iMac 3.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 or 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7?

Any suggestions on where to purchase RAM?

Thanks!

I got my iMac back in November and the apple store recommended CRUCIAL.COM. I upgraded from 4gb RAM to 16 gb RAM (max for this iMac model) for 91 dollars U.S.. I havent had any problems since. They have a tool on their site to help you find what you need. It was a simple process for me and I had no idea about computers at the time. Hope this helps.

I've been doing business with Other World Computing (.com) for many, many years now. The couple of times I did have a problem they replaced parts in 24 hours. Absolutely the best customer service anywhere. RAM, drives, anything. Plus they do upgrades many folks won't do. They know their Macs better than anyone.

Thanks!

I heard an iMac can be maxed out to 32 gigs of RAM. Is this true?

How difficult is it to change the RAM on an iMac?

OWC is selling a 32GB kit.

Changing RAM is a piece of cake. You just have to unscrew a plate on the bottom, pull out the old RAM sticks, shove in the new ones, screw in the plate, done.
It is best done by laying the iMac on a fluffy towel screen down on your desk..... at least they say so in the manual.

I guess it depends on the model/year of the iMac. I got mine in november of '11 and the apple store and the computer manual stated that mine was maxed out at 16gb of RAM. Does anyone know if this is able to be overlooked for me to get 32gb RAM. That would be nice! :woohoo:

here is what the specs of my machine are:

iMac
Model Identifier: iMac12,1
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 16 GB

Check with OWC, they list which iMacs can and can't take 32GB RAM. User manual will not reflect this ability as it is due to fairly new RAM cards that will do this.

Ok just looked into it with the OWC website. Looks like I'll be selling my 4X4 gb RAM cards and upgrading to 32gb RAM very soon. Thanks Ben! Made my day :cheer:
