Audio I/O port RetinaMBP
The audio I/O port on the new rMBP is a Stereo(out) + mic(in) port. Actually, a tip/ring/ring/sleeve port. Prior to ordering this computer I was a little worried about the port not allowing me to use a headset for things like VOIP (SKYPE). I plugged in a 3.5mm cell phone headset and made some tests. Under systems preferences>sound>(Input) changes to external mic, and (output) changes to external headphones. Moving the balance slider changes sound side to side and music and videos with separated sound plays stereo sound.
Apple has not made this clear.
