Compressor 4.1 and 2009 Mac Pro running Mavericks

Hey Guys and Gals don't know if this has been posted before but I have a 2009 2 x 2.26 ghz Quad Core MacPro with 32gb of RAM, ATI 5870 graphic card and OS 10.9.1. I upgraded to compressor 4.1 and noticed this instances instead of cluster options. So I did some reading and found that if I enable instances in my preference menu I can basically use them as clusters to do multicore compressing. But every time I turn on the instances either 1, 2 or 3 it always ques to the active monitor area but constantly says waiting and never starts the job. When I check the network encoding monitor all 1,2 or 3 instances say idle and I can't cancel the job it just hangs on canceling but never does. I have to trash the preferences for compressor to get it to stop trying to "process" the job.....

Has this or anything like this happened to anyone else and of so...have you found a remedy???
