Okay, so I'm looking at about 300GB of XDCAM EX footage (already converted into movs) that need to be trancoded to Prores LT.
My first try was Compressor 4. That did part of the files, but then quit in the middle because of "QT corrupted files". Important to know is that these files are already synced in FCP 7 and they work fine.
We tried:
Compressor 3 and 4
Adobe Media Encoder
and they all flipped
Toast did the job, slowly, but of course the metadate is lost and that's out of the question.
FCP X cannot transcode to optimized media (meaning Prores 422), as he sees XDCAM EX as optimized media already. We did try converting it to proxy and that worked fine (we are still talking about the same file that Compressor can't handle).
Since we can make it a proxy (which is 960x...) we thought is might just be bandwith, so we got it of the server and put in onto USB3 disks. Didn't work either.
...
Any suggestion on how to get the damn thing to prores LT (and preserve the metadata) is welcome.
Greetings

Yes, Prores LT is still a possibility in Compressor 4, you just have to make a setting manually. It's easy, just take the normal Prores Setting, and change the compressor setting to Prores LT.
To the original poster: I don't have it a lot, but we also had it once in a while with XDCAM. It sucks and I haven't found an explanation yet. We now went to Pix recorders from Sound Devices, because we have everything immediately in Prores LT. And that works VERY fast with FCPX. It's a very fast program, but performance seems to lag fast when you work with XDCAM, and it seems sometimes worse performance then FCP7 in this regard.
I don't know what you mean with Camera meta data of course, if you mean timecode or more then that. Otherwise you could just drop it in an empty timeline (FCP7 or FCPX), make sure it has the same sequence timecode as the clip you are trying to render out, and try it out from there.
Also, try to go from a (FCP7) reference movie XDCAM maybe, to a full blown XDCAM file trough compressor, and from THERE to a Prores. Just options. I know how frustrating it can be.
Mpeg Streamclip goes very fast, but you loose all metadata, even timecode.

1/3 of the clips are corrupted, with no pattern in size, cards, date, etc.
It's messed if even all the tech guys we call have no clue what it could be. We tried Avid today, which works, but not in batch.
I also found a CCow thread dated 2009 from a guy with exactly the same problem. No solution was found...
Next up is 'Episodes' and... Windows
