This is a short promotional produced pro bono for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency.

I shot the interview with a Sony Z5U, and used a Contour Pro HD in a waterproof housing for the boat sequence - note the splash at :43. The interview was done in mid day sun and unfortunately was blown out - it was hard to see the LCD even with a hood. Fortunately I was able to rescue the shot in FCP X. Music is from the Smart Sound library. I was able to match the agency's brand colours in the opening text and background screen. I used the Bulletin Board Pan Down transition which, although reminiscent of iMovie, works well here. I also used the free iPad transition from Ripple Training.

Ironically, it's the lighting of the interview that I find the most interesting. Great video for a worthy cause. I liked the boat righting scene. If there were any improvements, maybe the title is on for a second or 2 too long, love the music, maybe some of these color experts can advise on making the boat scenes a bit more.. cinematic or somehow enhanced like that interview shot looks. Since we see the iPad twice, maybe bring the 2nd one in with a twist. Also, when she says the most emotionally compelling thing in the whole piece, her voice drops a notch, I'd sweeten that just a tad where she says "..someone to talk to." This is because she feels emotion then, this means a lot to her, I wouldn't want that trivialized below the music. Bring it up, just a hair or two, be careful so that it's not noticeable, just the same level as the rest, or half a notch over if the music peaks there. Nice work.
