Hi- I'm looking for a little feedback on my work over the last few years.
I've recently gone freelance from my 9-5, and am
curious of what you all think of the content/layout on my site.
Some stuff was created with legacy final cut, but mostly FCPx.

Thanks!

The "about" page tells us nothing about "you", just about your clients. Seems to be redundant to the "clients" page. Who are you, where are you, what is your experience, what special accolades do you have, what exactly do you offer?

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask about websites, mine is extremely minimalist, with more prompting of conceptual notions than specific details. But for my work, since each project is so different, it works for me. If yours is supplying you with enough work, that's all that matters. The majority of my work has nothing to do with my website, so it's merely a marker.

Your site looks attractive, clean & modern. Since you're a filmmaker, all you have to say is in your films, that's how I feel. The frame around a Rembrandt is irrelevant to me, I just want to get into the art.

So the first thing I see is that your art is prominently displayed. If I were seeking your services, that would be my main concern, easy access to the art. The art shows the experience, but particular services might need to be spelled out for some people. However, I understand Ben's concern, some locational info would be helpful. If a prospective client is in Asia & requires your services, the logistics might be too exorbitant, as I assume you're in the US. But if people love your work, they'll fly you anywhere...

On the art side, just watched your first 2 films. The black athlete with the blue lens flares & the music that sounds a lot like the track they use in the promo vids for an FCPX plugin company we're not supposed to mention round here anymore. But your second one, Reel, on fly fishing was beautiful, with some of the most fantastic natural narrative, I really enjoyed it. Though when the music changed for act 3 I felt we were going on a bit long, but it does end on some perfect lines. Didn't really care for having the film description on the screen at the end. Nice job though.

I like your site.

Thanks guys. I had a little blurb about myself on the about page, but didn't really feel comfortable with what I had written. . I probably just need to approach it differently. Ill take a look around today and see what other people are doing. See if I can find something that sparks something for me to write about myself. Logistics could also help. I just figured clients could send me their daylies on a drive and we'd go over details on the phone.
I thought about putting a photo of my studio on the about page since I feel it's pretty nice and clean.

I am working on another fly fish adventure we just shot in the Bahamas. We shot with a 1dx, and canon c100 this time so footage looks a lot better than the 7d stuff from "Reel". Really stepped up the game there.

So, thanks again for taking the time to have a look. Really appreciate that-

If anyone else has any constructive criticism, or links to sites where people can help, I'd be grateful for the insight.

It might help to have someone else write the blurb about you, providing a slightly detached perspective.

Write up a bio about someone else you like in this industry.
Then substitute words that pertain to you.

Minimal is best, too. Let your demo reel and bio sell you, not the site's flashiness.
