First Time Editing DSLR Footage

Edited this piece from a recent fashion show, it was my first time working with DSLR footage. I have to say I don't like the way shooting with a DSLR looks because it doesn't "feel" like video, but does the Mark III put out a great picture. I can years from now the gap will be bridged with newer hybrid camera's.

Any, let me know what you think:

Looks fine to me.

Yes, it has that DSLR look about it, which is a different look from traditional video cameras (but then again a traditional video camera probably would not have been able to work in those low light conditions).

Hybrid cameras are already here, no need to wait a few years.

I like the edit, nice contrast of models & happy audience members. Pacing & music seems appropriate. Vimeo has trouble with camera flashes appearing as solid white stripes (not the band).

For me, I would have preferred you'd done a bit more work on the colorizing in post, most of the skin tones appear as bright white, even with no flash. So when we see faces on the runway, they're overexposed & this looks more amateur than glamorous.

Not sure that the ending gives me complete closure. If we're going to end on them partying into the night, maybe we could fade out to a shot of the exterior of the building again, or something to signify we came & went. It feels like we're leaving when we're going to miss something. How about a close up of a high heel fashion shoe as someone is leaving & we zoom in on a discarded program? Nothing says a successful evening like a couple leaving together.

Thanks for sharing

That's a good point about the low light, I tried hard to use masks and blurs to cover them streaks up, but it never looked any good. What cameras have you seen...that don't completelty break the bank haha.

I appreciate the tips and advice guys. I've mostly done more journalist or sports related pieces in the past so I'm trying to adapt on the fly. I've been watching tons of pieces trying to pick up ideas for future pieces.

Just to clarify one thing Trix; the flash banding you see is not to do with Vimeo, but its one of the many issues caused by the rolling shutter of CMOS sensors. This is part of the reason why the Global Shutter in th BMC4K is going to be such a big deal.

I've always been a fan of Sony's HD line, but after working with DSLR lately I think my next purchase would be the C100 or something similar.
