"If I Had A Kite" is a cat & mouse love story. It was created from an improvised storyline with highly skilled performers from Circus Oz in an abandoned leather factory in Melbourne, Australia.
Running time: 5m18s

Beautiful work, Cohen (priestly class indeed). What a lovely story you’ve created, I loved it. The music was captivating, your visuals dramatic, engaging & ultimately touching. Simple yet profound. Powerful.
From your still I could see we were going to be treated to some quality color grading. Unfortunately that aspect wavers a titch during the film. Looking its best as our man is startled, but the next 2 shots of him don’t quite match that initial rich colored splendor.
Loved your work with boots n’ bricks, enchanting set with some entertaining little touches from the toothbrush to the tango of timing the two’s tryst. Dust settling in sunbeams (I could have enjoyed more slowed 10%). The woman is particularly impressive with her strength moves. Please tell me you had a safety net or crashpads for her toe hang!
Walking the top of the wall with all its wonderful textures is mesmerizing, but a tad wobbly (perhaps intentional for danger…) either way, that section goes on a bit long for me by about a third.
The final iconic encounter silhouetted against a gorgeous sky, once industrial frame & the ubiquitous ominous cel tower, the astounding timing of the bird (angelic cupid whose job is complete), pure art.
Thanks for sharing.

J,
Fantastic critique. Spot on.
The 'walk the plank' series of imagery was literally the last of the footage I had left to get to the silhouette shot. It's never sat comfortably with me but I made that compromise.
Thank you for sharing.
Best,
Brian

Since posting, I've been contemplating that section, wondering if you were burning a little time so your ending fit the music... The plank walk, as you call it, had fantastic textures (I'm a bit of a texture fetishist for film), but perhaps if we'd done crossfades between the junctions, or preferably extend your wobble off the centerline a bit with a focus pull so we get a greater sense of danger by seeing the height exaggerated. Maybe even to see the boots from the walker's POV or from in front of their steps with the camera leaving the wall top for a moment to follow some crumbly brick bits falling into the abyss (with at least a 10% reduction in speed). Falling, fade transition to final shot. Nothing like a bit of tension added, & practical preparation for their eventual relationship.
Speaking of tension... I'm twitching to know... for the toe hang... safety or none? (or maybe you're reluctant to say, without permits & what not...) Great shirt he left on the chair.

Not really that impressive, just curious enough to rewind & pause.
