I would love for you guys to check out a music video I made recently with my Canon 60D and FCP X. There is no plot...and truthfully...you probably wont pull much from the video. But, dude wanted a music video and he loves it....so...job fulfilled.

I had a lot of fun with the color in FCP X and I made some graphics in another program. I didn't do anything in Motion. Just some retiming, lots of compositing. I am really trying to focus more on visual elements created in camera rather than on a computer. So...hopefully you will see some of that.

Let me know what you guys think!

Great track, with a very optimistic 80’s electronica feel. Trippy visuals, man. I’m having flashbacks. For what it is, I think it’s great, no real need for a story, just images & sound, a celebration of color & light. Some beautifully creative visuals. Not sure if you consciously applied specific visuals to certain lyrics, but with this type of video it’s good to remain cognizant of the emotionally distancing aspect of impersonal visual effects. They’re dazzling to the eye, but cold to the heart. It was good to see your man from time to time, his looks were mostly candid rarely performing. Perhaps a very subtle shift at some point in act three, just a slight zoom on him as he maybe looks up or down & to the side a few degrees, even hand to head, & ramp your speed down just a tad. We very nearly have this at 3:16 but not quite, perhaps the introduction of a hand or a head movement would have done it. That’s all we need to make the connection deeper.

There’s a scene around 2:50 with two beautiful bokeh lights pulsing in the dark, surrounded by others, that section though gorgeous goes on a bit too long by about a third.

Love the slowing tempo as the spinning pinwheel of light grows over the sun, that whole section beginning thru the trees is brilliant (no pun intended). However there’s a tiny sun sync issue just as the wheel turns to green, it jumps off alignment so the ending isn’t as smooth visually as I would have liked. Perhaps the green gets a little hard edged around that time too, a softer feather & gentle fade might work nicely.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for watching man!

The sync issue is because the rendering was taking hours! and i had to quit in the middle of a render and I guess when i came back i accidentally moved the camera. I didnt have the time to move the camera back and figure it out...so i just hope it went unnoticed. I could also just keyframe it by one frame and fix it....but I didnt do that for some reason.

And i agree with the lights went on for too long....I was trying to keep consistent with the music. But, i really didn't have much footage to go to something else...without making more 3D stuff. I actually used a lot of macro footage I had from another shoot to fill some gaps.
