Being a zero budget project this was edited as a favour, so compromises have definitely been made.

All post work was done directly within FCPX, the majority with what comes out the box but I did use the odd effect/title template that I created in Motion.

Jut a wee pre-watching warning that this contains explicit language.

DJ Woody - Turntables In Technicolor
We find ourselves being drawn into this piece because it’s got all the necessary components of interest; an artist whose passion is ebullient, compelling new technology, catchy beats & visuals.

From your video/technical side, the deployment works for me, the editing, camcorder view overlay, juxtaposition of color with black & white, all effective.

However, as the video progresses, one has to wonder, who is this for? I was eager to learn about his craft for the first 3 or 4 minutes, but then what? It goes on for almost another 10. Even people who love DJ Woody’s work would begin to find themselves tuning out, but why? Because his type of performance art is made for a live show. In fact, when he talks about pumping his visuals up on the big screen for a live show… we wish we were there!

That’s what your video needs, vital missing footage of a show, people dancing, lights flashing, happy faces, drinks, girls, the big screens & big beats moving the crowd. Because they failed to move us much past the 5 minute mark.

Good work, but too long for the content.

Thanks for the feedback, and definitely, live audience/footage would have been great, but the footage wasn't there. I did ask if Woody recorded the animation as I would have liked to have used some of that full screen, but it wasn't recorded either.

At first I had thoughts about the duration and content ratio, it's definitely an issue for a general audience, I know that. But for the target audience I don't believe it's an issue. Woody is one of the worlds top Hip Hop DJ's. The video has been created for his fans and his peers who may not have got to see it live, and even if so, want more for other reasons.

Like you, I personally would have preferred it was shot live and with full screen graphics thrown in there for a more general audience. But what Woody is actually doing with his technique also holds something for the target audience, who incidentally want to see his Audio Visual Set online. I'm curious to hear back on what they have to say about it.
