Well I certainly think Apple can learn a few things from Davinci Resolve. Hopefully FCPX the will be on board with a few valuable missing features soon

I've been thinking about that when they announced it. My first reaction was "yes".
My second thought is "no, but it might damage Premiere more".
FCPX will stay because it's a one of a kind, it has magnetic timeline. People who like it will stick to it. On the other hand, Premiere is less special it's a "classic NLE".
This is just my thoughts, we also need to take into account that:
- Resolve 12 is still clumsy, they need a couple of releases to be as good as FCPX/Premiere
- We don't know if Apple want to make FCPX a top product or just go one like this.

I don't think so.
I agree with Manoucho: FCPX is one of a kind, there is nothing like it.
- It has unique organizational tools that traditional NLEs lack (including Resolve 12), which are the key to modern metadata driven workflows. Just check out Philip Hodggetts Lumberjack demo at the FCPWORKS booth last NAB:
He clearly explains why it didn't make sense for them to create a version of Lumberjack compatible with Media Composer / Premiere, because those system will never integrate as well as FCPX with his powerful app. Neither will Resolve 12.
- It has a trackless timeline, which is a faster and more flexible way to edit (once you get used to it): no patching, no need to manage track order, track types, clip collisions, and a very long etc.
So Resolve 12 might slowly take a bite of the traditional NLE market: Premiere, Media Composer, FCP7. I don't think it's going to appeal much to FCPX users.
Yes, we do. We just have to read between the lines.
Apple has been committed to FCPX development since day one, and I don't think they are going to stop now, considering how good things are progressing. More and more people are switching to X, and Apple is slowly becoming more vocal about it, after Focus release, 10.2 update this NAB, and the upcoming FCPX Creative Summit .

I am not as well versed in what impact Da Vinci Resolve 12 will have on current FCP X users as others on this board. I am very glad to see a more viable offering from a non-Adobe developer in case there would ever be a need to venture forth .
I have no intention of giving up FCP X, though competition keeps all the developers on their toes, prices reasonable and yields high rewards for consumers and end users.

What astounds me is that there were/are many FCP7 users that remain on 7 or have crossed over to another editor, simply because they are old dogs that refuse to learn new tricks, such as a magnetic timeline.
I admit though, often I prefer elements/roles to line up in their own lanes, visually it looks better organised and less messy. Even considering that it's possible things could be coded to optionally align like element into lanes, such as titles or b-roll edits.
I certainly think editing in FCPX is a lot more fast intuitive, but in this day of video editing we need our editors to be more capable to limit the amount of round-tripping needed for smal tasks. That's another time waster. It's getting there though.
An example of this would be a role-based mixer many have been asking for. Even though it's better to edit sound externally, round-trip editing is still not fluent enough and there are countless small tasks where it would be better to avoid round-tripping entirely.

Hi Guys
I think that even the fact that this is being discussed is significant.
I have spent the last couple of months in Resolve actually editing.
I started with a small little project and am currently in a large project.
- I believe that, the actual editing as such, is there as of now!
- New features will undoubtedly help and I will be one of the first to try them out.
- BUT. There are aprox 10 minor tweaks which if addressed would be a huge help and be more significant than 100 new features!!!
I guess as always it is horses for courses.
Going back to FCPX after Resolve the magnetic timeline can for my liking seem almost a little too slippery.
Going back to Resolve after FCPX and the timeline can seem some what like a straight jacket.
Here is the shameless plug for my two in depth editing in resolve tutorials for any one who missed them.

Peter also kindly featured an abbreviated version on this fine site!
I think that we are definitely in for a big stand off between Resolve and Premiere.
I have not followed it as closely as I would like to have but it looks as if Adobe are putting a lot of energy into Colour Correction in Premiere!
And that Blackmagic are obviously investing a lot of energy in editing functions in Resolve!!!
I for one will be watching this very closely!
And I am very curious to see what kind of implications this will have for FCPX…
IMHO : FCPX still excels at getting fresh fruit and veg including there bar codes in and out of the door ASAP.

Resolve is no threat to FCP X (and vice-versa) because they are not competitors. Quite the opposite: they are steadily becoming perfect companions.
