About a week back Waves released a new voice processor.

It's mainly for vocals, but I could see the additional benefit it may have for processing dialogue. In particular, if you wanted to lo-fi something, make it sound like a recording or possibly a telephone conversation, but it could be used to make anything sound more lo-fi really.

Butch Vig takes a walk through in one of the videos on the Waves website.

FCPX already has audio filters that do lo-fi very well, lots of great vocal filters. That is a nice overall mixing plugin for music, though. Singing voices are a whole different universe than speaking voices.

FCPX has a Voice category of audio filters. And to get phone, AM radio, though a wall type effect, look at the EQ category, ChannelEQ, Presets, EQ Tools. There are several great presets that serve as starting places for that type of effect quick, easy, free.

Yes... and then no.

I find the pre-packages stuff that comes with FCPX a little limiting in some respects. Not all the time. Some of it can be quite cliché though.

I'm always on the look for new sounds and options, andI can very much see myself use this Waves plugin for post-production as well. I can tell just by listening to the demo that it could work well given the right context.

A tiny bit of it added to the dialogue track could help it it sound fuller and sit upfront a lot more. But care must be taken with the compression and of course the distortion should be left well allow in this instance.

A use for the distortion would be to help add body to gunshots or explosions, but again, only a tiny amount should be use.

I think its a great plugin with multiple applications, just thought i'd share my find with other like minded thinkers.

My first use for it, however, might be to run it in parallel on a bass guitar track. I've yet to try it however.

always searching, exploring, experimenting, trying to find new innovative ways of doing something. i really don't like boxing myself in to any single set or techniques.
