DaVinci Resolve 10.1 Workflow Question was created by Daniel Rutledge
The short version is this: Is there a way to do a color grade on a master clip in the media pool?
To better understand what I am after, read below.
My current FCPX multicam color correction workflow is this:
1 First Pass Multicam cut in timeline
2 Open Multicam Clip in angle editor and do a basic grade for each camera
3 Go back to time line for fine cut, depending on project I either do a simultaneous second cut clean up and shot by shot color correction at the same time or I do them one after the other.
4 Depending on project I might make the entire timeline into a compound clip and create a look.
Now that Resolve seems to pretty flawlessly support Multicam, I'm looking to port this efficiency to a Resolve grade. My big problem is this. Sometimes in my shot by shot CC I only add a secondary correction to one out of a dozen clips, because the initial grade that I did in Angle Editor was sufficient for the rest of the takes from that camera. Is there a way to do this in Resolve. So far, the only solution seems to be to create my own LUT for each camera and then apply it in the media pool. This is not ideal for a lot of reasons.
Sorry about the length of this question.
I decided to post this here first instead of at BMD because it has to do with Multicam workflow, and I think my chances of getting an answer are better because of that.
