Ok, so I just downloaded the Blackmagic Disk Speed test and tested it on my My Book Studio from Western Digital with Firewire 800 and 7200 rpm. I also tested it on my Western Digital My Passport that's USB 3.0.
While the test had blackmagic suggesting to me that neither device was capable of handling ANYTHING over NTSC (not sure if this is true or not), it did tell me that the USB 3.0 is 104.8 MB/s Write and 105.2 MB/s Read, while my larger Firewire 800 hard drive was 61.1 MB/s Write and 44.6 MB/s Read.
Should I just go ahead and ditch my old My Book Studio Firewire 800 hard drive and go with the USB 3.0 My Passport instead? If it is so much faster, i have no idea why i would want to use the other drive.
i remember someone telling me when editing with HD footage to use at least a hard drive with 7200 rpm, but it almost seems pointless if the speed isn't fast enough
