Mass shared storage solutions?

Hey all - I'm researching mass storage solutions for a tv station. We have multiple edit stations running FCP7 network connected, sharing assets over a grid. They edit native HDV 720p 60.

We're getting horrible performance - engineering switched us out fibre and xsan/xserve solutions back when
Apple discontinued service.

Now engineering is talking about upgrading the storage and moving back to fibre - the line's already in the walls! - but they're not convinced on a reliable storage environment yet.

I'm just curious as to some of your mass storage solutions and the type of performance you get from your setups.

I'm not a storage or network specialist, I'm just an editor. We had this setup installed for us, and it works great with 3 connected stations:

We have a Mac Mini Server, connected to 3x Pegasus R6 RAIDS. Thunderbolt Looptrough to an Atto Thunderbolt to 10GB E device ( www.attotech.com/products/category.php?id=15&catid=16 ), and that goes to a Switch. 3x Retina Macbook Pro's connected to it.
We use FCPX, and can even play 6 streams of Prores LT 1080 50i with a timecode generator on all of them, unrendered. It drops some frames though, but not too much.

This is my specialty. Or was, I'm moving further and further away from networking as I get closer and closer to retiring this fall.

Apple never discontinued service for XSAN, no sure that that's about. Once you're on fibre channel, there's never a good reason to leave it. IMHO.

Have them seriously look at Camtemo on a server and Promise VTRAK RAIDs.
