This post is not directly about FCPx, but related to the audio clips you lay in your FCPx project, or should I say the lack of a music clip. I want to point your attention to my newest book "GarageBand 11 - How it Works" that teaches you how to use Garageband so you can quickly create your own musical bed or jingle for your video without any licensing or copyright restriction.

It is released in my "Graphically Enhanced Manuals (GEM)" series. Some of you might be familiar with my other books in that series for FCPx, Compressor and Motion. If you haven't seen any my books, please checkout the samples on my website to find out about my unique style of writing manuals with rich graphics and diagrams that helps you understand the applications.

DingDingMusic.com/DingDing/GB11.html

This GarageBand manual is good for beginners but also for advanced users. I cover a lot of topics labeled "advanced" that go a little bit deeper than the usual "click here and then that will happen" approach. u Graphically Enhanced Manuals" are self published book without any publishing company. Available as pdf file from my website, printed book on Amazon or as interactive Multi-Touch eBook for the iPad on Apple's iBookstore.

Thanks for you interest,

Edgar Rothermich

Don't tell anyone but I was so frustrated with the lack of choice for music due to budget constraints on a recent project that I composed a little piece on GarageBand on the iPad, emailed it to myself, dropped it in to the sequence and it went to air.

LOVE IT.

Looks good! Im going to buy it now and check it out (I never did get the hang of garage band and never saw any tutorials for it).

Do you have any ideas about how to get more loops to use?

I see that Apple Main Stage (at $26.99) includes the same 19GB of content that comes with Logic Pro (at $179.99) - would you be able to use those loops with Garage Band?

Logic, GarageBand, MainStage and Soundtrack have all the same foundation. They access the same installed Apple Loops, Plugin Settings and Channel Strip Settings. The Project Files are also upward compatible. You can start a Project on your iPhone (GarageBand iOS), load that into GarageBand 11 on the Desktop to continue to work and later open the GarageBand project in Logic to get really serious.

And yes, MainStage is the best deal to get all the Apple Loops. An amazing price if you consider that each JamPack was $99 at.
BTW, if you have any Apple Loops form your old FCP installation that came with Soundtrack, those Loops and SFX will also at your fingertip, right there in GarageBand, next to all the other Apple Loops.

If you want to get more serious with Apple Loop (create your own, indexing other audio files libraries into Apple Loop, etc), I have a free manual about Apple Loops on my website. It is from 2005 but no that much has changed since then.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. A lot of video editor don't' realize that how easy it and fast it is. Maybe even faster than going through piles of Library tracks and still not finding the right track.

And don't forget to register your music cue with a performing rights organization (ASCAP, BMI) if you know it is going on air. Some money on the back end waiting for you right there.

(Now that I have encouraged more editor to create their own music instead of hiring me the film composer, I have to sell more books to compensate for my lost future revenues ;) )

This thread really caught my eye, because of the 19-20 gigs of loops for 30 bucks. I've just been to the Apple site & it seems there are a lot of unhappy campers...

Sorry to post the text, but the link seems to not lead to the actual comments because of flash or CSS or some other web wizardry...

Has anyone actually downloaded all 20 gigs without a problem? ... really?

thanks

Customer Reviews
Terrible for existing users, great for new users

by Sasha Smith
Since the previous version (2.1.3) won't load sessions anymore without crashing after 5 seconds, its extremely upsetting to be forced into buying this miniscule, decimal point upgrade that gives us absolutely NO NEW FEATURES. Just look at the "New Features" description above and you'll see there's nothing there except the fixes that now allow us to simply USE the program again without it crashing repeatedly.

Its hard not to see this soley as a money grab that gouges existing users of MS. If there is indeed a reasonable explaination for this I would love for an Apple rep to post it here. If this type of thing happens again I'll be more than happy to switch to another platform.

Sorry for the bad review, I know its only $30 but its more about the principle.

MacBook Pro 2.66 i7 processor 8gb RAM 500GB HD w/300GB free space OS 10.7.4 - no reason why the previous version should not work at all!

Bought for Jam Packs

by RhapsodicRose
I bought Mainstage so that I could download the additional content: Jam Packs. I installed all of the additional content to use in Garage Band. Some of the Sampler Files and Sampler Instruments didn't download properly the first time. I redownloaded and it added some of the content I was missing. I am still missing Sampler Files and have redownloaded the additional content 3 times now. I have scoured forums accross the internet and have not had any luck.

Frustrating.

by Charles Ornelas
I'm having the same problem many others have had. So far I've attempted to start up Mainstage about 8 times. Each time, it attempts to install the basic content needed to run, finishes, then closes itself. Then I attempt to open it again, and the same process occurs. I've already tried un/re-installing Mainstage, but it's the same problem every time. If this doesn't get fixed, I really hope I can get my $30 back.
