uhm, well, over here in Germany, such a 'glass transition' is 'pop culture' - for more than 5 decades:
our version of 'Americas Most Wanted', 'Aktenzeichen X,Y, ungelöst' established a practical dissolve, by panning a piece of 'security glass' along the lens. Here a newer' example from 1970 (who uploads all this stuff???)
