DEBUGGED 7 July 2012 (Text scaling issue fixed)



A Title effect for creating rolling news style scrolling lower thirds, with controls for:

- Scroll Rate;
- Reduce flicker on/off;
- Start offscreen on/off;
- Band position, height and color;
- Band feather position;
- User image On/Off, position, scale and rotation;
- Opacity gradient on/off.
- Band.feather.position control, and drop shadow controls for band.

Please let me know if you would like any further enhancements to this effect.

Make sure you put it in your Motion Templates/Titles folder, preferably in a new folder of your own naming.

Tip: If you want to use one of the FCPX generators as an user image source, edit a section into your timeline, click on the Title Effect User Image well and then skim over to the generator clip, and click on it and "apply clip". Remember there are some great images tucked away in the drop-down menus for each of these generators so it's worth exploring the possibilities.

It's great! Two things I would ask.. can you change the Band.Feather.Position so that you can 1) Change whether the feather is to the right or left, and 2) If the feather could start offscreen and then fly in, preferably keyframeable?

I could give you controls for drop shadow in the main interface but I didn't want to because a) you already have them in the text panel of the effect (down at the bottom, you need to scroll to find it) and b) I didn't want to overload the UI with too much detail.

You can animate the band.feather.position slider currently - does that give you enough control or do you need more?

I'll have a go at giving you the option for having it from the opposite side as well.

Can you make the Band.Feather.Position slider accept negative values? So you can fly in from offscreen?

As far as overloading with too much detail, I'm of the mind that the more control over every aspect I have, the better.

So, the drop shadow (the one you are talking about) is for
the text...the one i would love to get is for the box itself.

OK, that should be no problem

Now updated for you - see the original post for the new zip file to download.

The Band.Feather.Position slider now works in such a way that you can set the band to come on from either the right or the left -= and of course you can keyframe it the slider animation control. Slide it all the way to the right and the band is fully on, slide it all the way to the left and the band is also fully on - centre it in the middle and the band is fully off. It should make sense when you play with it

And I've added Vader's band drop shadow as well.

My first time seeing this thread... quite the teaser, then a huge disappointment.
Kind of like some dates I've been on.

However, I think there is a scrolling ticker in FCPX somewhere, though probably not with the depth of controls this one had.
