Frame Rate Emulator was created by NocoDave
This effect creates the look of lower frame rates within a higher frame rate project and can be applied to clips of any frame rate with consistent results. Only the project and emulation frame rates are important.
Emulate either 3, 6, 12, 18 or 24 frames per second.
It has been setup to work with all SD, HD, 4K & 5K resolutions at all available frame rates from 23.98 to 60fps in FCPX.
It also has a PDF file inside the folder. This folder, as downloaded from the link below, should be put inside a "Custom" named folder in your "Effects" folder inside your "Motion Templates" folder in your "Movies" directory.

Thanks Dave, sounds interesting.
Trying to get my head around what this would look like.
I'm guessing the footage will appear more jerky, perhaps old timey?
If so, that might be a nice effect in conjunction with some aged film effects.

That's the idea. It can work great for make a stop motion style effect with the right footage or in combination with film looks, sometimes aged, it can work very well too.
It allows for sections of what appears to be, perhaps, 18fps Super 8 to be shown in what may need to be 60fps project.

Just happened to see this topic on the sidebar. I downloaded this plugin when this was originally posted but just used it for the first time on a music video I'm editing. The bands performance was pretty plain and they didn't have a lot of energy so I really needed to effect the footage a lot.
The really cool thing is that I shot about half the footage with a shutter speed of about 200, so on it's own it already looks kind of like stop motion, but I added the frame rate emulator at 12fps and it looks great. I'll be finished with the video in a few weeks and I'll post it so you can see how the effect turned out.
Thanks for this awesome plugin!

Oh man, I totally forgot to post this video until I needed to download this plugin again. This was used on every shot, I think I went with 12 fps from 24 shutter speed around 200.
Here's the video
This plugin is really awesome with high shutter speeds and lots of camera movement.

Hello
Grateful for this. Unfortunately not working for me, I get some strange jumps backwards that make the video discontinuous
Any idea ?

Try my free Strobe / stutter effect. Sounds like the same thing. There is a problem with these plugins if you use the first frames of the clip sometimes. Which is probably why Apple hasn't simply published their own. With mine you can dial in the frame rate you want or pick a "smooth strobe" which has presets for particular project frame rates so you get a smooth cadence. IOW you don't have to do math. And it comes with a real installer that's Catalina certified.

Be sure to check out the other freebies while you're there. A little video tutorial on my Youtube channel here
