Apple is discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display Mac will follow? 24 Jun 2016 08:20 #78091

Although the Verge has a reputation of being a click-bait site with unreliable information, this decision from Apple would not surprise me.

Because third-party Thunderbolt displays are made for a far larger market, they can be produced much cheaper than the one from Apple. So it does make sense to buy a thrid-party monitor, which many people seem to do now. Wether the current Apple Display will be replaced with another model remains to be seen. And it's not really important because all the good third-party displays have Thunderbolt connectivity.

I don't know why you would make the link to the MacPro, it's certainly not mentioned anywhere in the article. Whether there will be a MacPro update or not has nothing to do with the Apple Thunderbolt display.

Its one step going away from there current Pro product line.
Is there another alternative to the Thunderbolt Display, with Thunderbolt, USB hub and ethernet port?

Just google "alternative for Apple Thunderbolt display" and you will find plenty of them. It is correct that the apple display offers the most connectivity options on the back of the display, but that does not seem to bother ayone using a third-party display.

And if you know Apple, you now there is no such thing as an eternal product line. Just like there is no fixed pattern in software updates. That is also one of their major strengths.
