Color Finale Transcoder - BRAW, ARRIRAW, DNG and CinemaDNG into FCP 19 Apr 2021 13:00 #114065

You’ve just purchased a shiny new Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro or Pocket Cinema Camera and are looking forward to the benefits of shooting camera raw. Oops! Final Cut Pro doesn’t support BRAW. Sure, you could use DaVinci Resolve, but you’d rather stay within your preferred editing ecosystem. Fear not, Color Trix has your back.

Did anyone test a trip to Resolve for finish ? (does transcoding mess with names for relink ? ) Cause I have to edit Resolve right now because of Braw but I sure prefer the sleek fast cut of FCPX (though I still enjoy the grading of DR).

I did some limited testing with BRAW clips. Going from FCP to Resolve works fine, but I suppose it depends on your workflow. I add clips to the media pool first and then import the FCPXML as a timeline. When I do that I disable the function to automatically import clips. My testing relinked instantly using this approach. However, the clips are shown as compounds on the timeline, which I presume is unrelated to Transcoder. This may also be because my clips were not 16:9, 1920x1080 to start with. Once you "decompose in place" you have the BRAW clip back on your timeline and can adjust raw settings.

Oliver, did the shots that came across as compound clips have speed changes?

No speed changes. However, they were 4096x2160 in a 1080 timeline, so spatial conform differences come into play.

Thanks for this. I just got asked about a project with CDNG and had no idea how to get into it.
