Writing my first plugin.

Writing my first plugin. was created by Kosalos
Q1. In the renderOutput call, how do I get the frame# relative to when the video was recorded, rather than its current position within the edited video? (after cutting/pasting/shuffling/etc).
My goal is to use FCP X to replicate my other program ( www.eyetube.net/video/molelo/ ), where data arriving on a serial port is used to draw overlay widgets while the video is being recorded.
Q2. Is there a way in FCP to notify another application that the Record button has been pressed?
This other app would be monitoring the serial port, and storing data to file.
Then in FCP during editing, my plugin would access that file to draw overlay data synced to the video.
For the same reason, I would need FCP to notify this other program of the filename it stored to video to.

Hi,
I would suggest looking at the Apple ProApps Developer List - trying to find a link that works
You probably know that there is no such thing as a plugin in FCPX, it uses Motion wrappers that contain a plugin.
I know Quartz Composer has patches that scan external devices, so take a look at Noise Industries' DocuWiki.
Hope that helps
Peter
