Apologies for the double post.
I think this is a better place for my question.

I deleted my Final Cut Pro Documents.
Final Cut Pro wouldn't open, as there was no Scratch Disk.
I got the Final Cut Pro Docs out of the trash, but incorrectly set the Scratch Disk to Users/Username/Documents/Additional Easy Setups
Now FInal Cut doesn't go beyond the license screen, so i have no way of correcting the Scratch Disk Settings.

How can I force Final Cut to Open to allow me to se the Scratch Disk to the correct folder ?

Hi Pete

Sounds a little weird what you are doing.

I am guessing that you had your project file in your Final Cut Pro Documents Folder.

This is the file that is like the key to where every thing is.

This key file links to a folder called the scratch disk and this is where you store your media files.

So Project and Scratch are 2 separate entities.

"Final Cut Pro wouldn't open, as there was no Scratch Disk!"

When FCP opens you can normally make a folder and call it a scratch disc. I suspect you overlooked this!

There is some short cut which I can not remember. It is something like this.

Whilst clicking the FCP Icon in your dock. Press one of the following keys. Shift, CTRL, ALT or COMMAND and FCP should open a new empty project.

If my memory serves me correctly you can chose your scratch disk a this point.

You could use a temp folder eg "DummieSCRATCH" on your desktop.

But you want to change this to a folder on an external drive at the very latest when you start capturing your material.

It sounds as if FCP is trying to open an existing project and chasing its own tail... Getting mixed up. Having two left hands!

This above mentioned method for opening FCP 7 might help you break the cycle and at least get back into the program…

You should also have a clear back up strategy

Basically I've pointed it at an incorrect location for the scratch files.
So now FCP doesn't open.
I've tried pressing those buttons, but it doesn't help.
(Ctrl and Click just gives me me a list of non-helpful options, including stuff like "quick look")
I don't even get to the point where i can select/locate the scratch file.

Yeah, i have backups sorted.
Run off external drives, and even take one to my folks once a month in case of fire/theft.
off site back up :)
Thinking about starting to use time machine. would solve this clusterfu3k.

That link below hasn't helped either. have deleted the com.apple.FinalCut.plist file, but FCP7 still won't open.
