Hi everyone,

I am unable to install FCP 7 on my MacBook Pro (running on OS X Mountain Lion). When I click on "Install Final Cut Studio" I just get an error message, saying "You can't open the application "FinalCutStudio.mpkg" because PowerPW applications are no longer supported". I've read up about it on the Internet but all I've gotten is threads about FCP2 or how to do a clean install, but I've never had this application downloaded on my machine before.

Thanks in advance!

You sure it is 7, not 6? 7 should install without Rosetta.

Did ML finally break 7?

Final Cut Studio won't "install" in Mountain Lion. But it runs just fine if you had it installed before upgrading to Mountain Lion.

Thanks for your help! So if I downgrade back down to just Lion, it should install? I didn't have it installed before upgrading though.

EDIT: and my version is definitely 7.

I think you need to go back to snow leopard to run anything that needs Rosetta. I'd probably create a virtual machine running snow leopard and see if I could install that way.

No idea how - guess I needed to install the disks in a different order. But it worked! On Mountain Lion! So relieved. Thanks for your help guys!

Um, you install them in the order they tell you to, that's set.

But you got it to install on ML? Really? What exactly did you do?

I think I had FCP 2 as well as 7. All I did was put in FCP 7 and when it asked for the serial number, I entered it in, and it said it was an upgrade number and asked for the original serial number. I entered in the one from FCP 2 (on the CD it said Version 2.0 ... FCP 2? Not sure. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to software!) and it worked - no glitches or anything! I think I originally got the error message when I stuck the FCP 2 (or version 2) CD in, (the PowerPC application isn't supported error message) ... but FCP 7 worked fine!!

THAT makes sense! OK, I got it now! Was it Final Cut Pro 2, or Final Cut Studio 2? In other words, was it 10 years old, or 5 years old?

I had no trouble installing FCP7 on my MBP running Mountain lion but I am having trouble updating it to the last version, 7.0.3, has anyone else had the same problem or know of a fix?

The FCS2 (FCP6) Installer is still PPC. It doesn't work anymore since Snow Leopard. The app itself runs though.

I just finished my last project with FCP6. Gonns deinstall it now from all machines (got FCP8 aka Premiere CS6 as a backup).
