However what I can't forgive is its inability to let me export clips directly from my project! Its driving me insane. It should have been in there since v.1 - but Apple seem to refuse to put it in.
Going to compressor is no option at all. Its broken, buggy and f&*kin clunky as hell!
Why the hell haven't Apple fixed this?!?!?! It must be insanely easy to implement such a basic feature.
Other than that - its great program - but this is a massive oversight.

But just out of curiousity: How often do you need this feature? Once every ten minutes, once an hour, once a day? At least for the latter, I'm fine to copy/paste the clip into a new project storyline and hit cmd-e. It's not that overmwhelmingly time-comsuming for me.

Apple has a HUGE list of things to implement into FCP X. The development team is small and can only work on a few at a time. Things have been added fast over the past year. Faster than with any other NLE on the market. Fill out the feedback page, they read that, they track those reports. But not everything can be in an app all at one time, unless you were willing to wait 2-3 more years for a new Final Cut Pro to be released.

compressor is just about the slowest and worst way to do this. its also takes about ten times longer than it should. And i really don't want to start a new project every time I need a clip - I have enough of those as it is.
I defend apple all the time - but on this there really is no defence. its a very simple requirement of an edit system and one should not have been overlooked.
where is the feedback page?

Personally, it's not a feature I need very often at all.

I have to export out Background Plates all the time - and exporting everything out to Quicktime 7 and doing it from there seems to be the quickest work around for me.
It's pretty stupid for a modern cutter.

I'm in the process of shooting a bunch of chromakey medical presentations. I then provide the multimedia firm with the clips with Alpha channels.
I can do it directly from FCP 7 by applying the filter to the clip and then doing a batch export.
Be nice if I could do it from X.

Basically the same functionality, but only for Motion and AE.
But yeah, having to buy a 3rd party plugin is quite annoying.

Another, possibly better option would be to create a folder of Projects, create a project for every clip, key it in FCPX, and send each project to Compressor. Then you combine all of them into one giant batch, and away you go (with a render farm, if you have multiple machines and QMaster set up!)
Again, not ideal, but I'm not entirely sure what you were doing in FCP7 to begin with, so this may not be helpful at all.

I am, and that has nothing to do with this thread.

MJSanders: If you have After Effects I recommend to go the route Alan Seawright already suggested. With ClipExporter v1.1 you can export your entire timeline to AE which is much faster than exporting single Quicktime References movies.
