Normal widescreen aspect on video but not on photographs. was created by Nemo
Video shot with iPhone Pro Max 14 is rendered in proper widescreen ratio using FCP, however, still photographs
shot hot in widescreen ratio are not rendered in widescreen format when uploaded to FCP. What setting am I
missing during upload to FCP?

The iPhone doesn't shoot the same resolution or aspect ratio for both video and still photos.
What you're seeing is the default behavior, which is to fit the entire image into your timeline without distorting it.
Select a photo (in the browser or timeline), and then look at the inspector. There you'll find a Spatial Conform option, which you can change from Fit to either Fill or None. Alternatively, for photos already in the timeline, you can also just scale and reposition in frame.
This also works on graphics and other video clips, though you won't see any difference between any of these settings if the image/video resolution matches your timeline settings.
