Looking for a "Grid" Style Plugin with Individual Timelines

Bear with me while I try to explain what I'm looking for. I'm relatively new to FCPX and will probably struggle with the terminology to explain this! I want a grid with (probably) 4 different drop zones; 3 equal sized zones across the top half of the screen and then a single zone across the entire bottom half. I know this exists in *many* forms...I have several from a package that I bought...but here's the kicker - I would like *each* zone to have its own "mini-timeline". In other words, (let's just focus on one zone but the concept applies to all) within this zone I would like to have changing still pics *or* a series of short video clips...or both. In essence, each zone's content would constitute a (short) timeline. I *believe* I have heard this idea referred to as a "video wall". I realize that I could just make short standalone clips containing each zone's content and applying that as a single element...but that would constitute a LOT of work ultimately for what I'm after.
Is this even possible in FCPX? Does a plugin already exist that does this? (Am I "wishing for the moon"!?)

If I understand you correctly, you might want to try using compound clips. You can edit clips into a Project/timeline, and finesse things as needed. Afterwards, select everything and create a compound clip (which will appear in the Browser). You can use the compound clip in the drop zone for your "video wall" plugin/template with your main Project/timeline. Repeat for other drop zones. If you need to change things, open the desired compound clip from the Browser and edit away...

Your advice is spot on! Just a few minutes after I posted my question I stumbled across a tutorial on YouTube talking about compound clips. I had never worked with them before...but now that I understand them (at least a tiny bit more than I did!) they are exactly what I needed...and will certainly be able to use them for much more than this particular problem! Thank you very much for the "confirmation" answer!

For your consideration:
AutoCrop:
which is bundled with
AutoCrop Animated:
No drop zones to deal with. Just stack your videos and animate AutoCrop. All your videos are available for editing directly in the storyline... just place AutoCrop last in the list.
You can design any kind of layout you want.
You can build custom cropping effects (via Effects Presets) for drag'n'drop readiness in future projects.
BTW, I was using the name AutoCrop months before Final Cut Pro for iPad came out. I did not know Apple would be using the term — but I'm keeping it! (I had it first... for FCPX).

Nobody treats you more like a 1st grader learning FCP than Pixel Films with their 40db juvenile 'click' (18x) and 'bing' (13x) sound effects. Ben doesn't place them in his tutorials and neither should you. (End of rant. Submit.) [CLICK]
