Copied RAW files from card to drive, now they won't import 19 Sep 2023 18:06 #127172
Hi, looking for help recovering my video files from day 1 of a multi-day shoot. Shooting RAW LT on a Canon C70. First day's files were copied to hard drives - the files have a .CRM extension and show sizes correct for their
content. But FCPX (and Premiere and Easy Edit) won't recognize them. If they're in a correct folder tree, FCPX sees the files, but says 'no importable files'. I've tried copying them back onto a card, renaming them to match the new folder name. Files on the original card import fine. For files on the card that work, if copied on the card and renamed slightly they show up and work. It seems there's something hidden that's preventing FCPX from recognizing the file type on cards separated from their original card. Any advice? Thanks! |

Don't know if you also shot the video, but it helps to know the camera well (read the manual), be aware of utilities and plugins, and so on.
According to Apple, to support Canon RAW Light files, you need to install a plugin: support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/final-cut-pro/ver2833f855/mac Here's a link to the plugin (most recent version I could find): canoncanada.custhelp.com/app/answers/ans....6-for-final-cut-pro Hope this helps. |

Hi Dave, thanks for the quick response. I found that plug in too, and unfortunately that doesn't fix the problem. I'm able to import RAW files, but only from the card. Trying to replicate the problem, if I copy the whole folder tree from the card to the drive it works. But if I copy just the files, and create an identical folder tree on the drive, it doesn't. Odd. There aren't any files missing.

Found the problem. The files are just enormous collections of '1s' and have no real content. The copy process must have been flawed, creating enormous video files, with nothing in them.

Wow. Glad you figured things out. I've always been told to make exact copies/archives of camera cards, since some of them are structured in a certain way. I know that EditReady is especially good at dealing with media from camera cards, and is able to read metadata that is often in other directories/folders. Cheers. |
