Hi, I'm new to FCP and wondering about this. My usual editing style is to record all of my narrations and line them up on my timeline, and then fill in video clips to fit said timeline. In my old software, this was fine. In FCP, once I get my audio clips in place, as soon as I try to add videos within that timeline, it jacks everything up. Moves the audio files around as I guess it is trying to keep them synced in some smart way, but I just want them to remain as I originally placed them before the video clips got there. Any advice on how to lock them in place or how to not have them try to smart sync with the video clips? It's probably something simple I am doing wrong but my old software didn't give me this issue. Thanks

I have just tried to replicate your problem by adding a series of audio clips to a new test project and then put random video clips above them and everything works perfectly . . . no unexpected movements.

So you must be doing something unusual which I cannot guess.

Can you give precise details of what you are doing?

Hi mhinkamp
You are in the same situation as similar as editing music videos. The key is that your narration is the primary storyline and your videos are secondary storylines connected to primary. In an empty project you first insert (W) your audio narration and next you connect (Q) your videos.  Now your videos can be moved freely on the rol line of narration
