Exporting L & R sides of a stereo mix as two mono tracks for DCP creation

I am attempting to create my own DCP using Open DCP. I have done it before but I just wanted to run something by the forum to make sure I was handling the audio correctly.

For a stereo submission, Open DCP asks for two mono tracks (L&R). On FCP I have been navigating to audio configuration and setting the stereo clip to dual mono. I then expand audio components, disable one clip, export as L and then repeat with the remaining track as R and input those into open DCP. FCP makes it very confusing because even with dual mono selected and one track disabled or muted, it will still play the track through both speakers when playing on the timeline. This makes me unsure if I am truly exporting the L and R sides of a stereo track and instead just exporting two identical mono tracks that FCPX is choosing to mix through both speakers. Forgive my audio ignorance but I'm a DP and just dabble in editing and am usually happy to hand off the responsibility of audio - at all stages of production - to someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks

It seems to me that what you want to do is convert a stereo audio track to two mono LoRo audio tracks. FCP does not perform this operation very well, because what FCP can do is pass a stereo track to mono. This procedure is done well and easily in a DAW, where you can calculate the panning law of the mix and adjust the volumes of the new LoRo tracks. My advice would be to export your stereo track to a colleague with a DAW (ProTools, Nuendo ...) to perform this task
