Break apart Multicam for vertical editing/reframing- *still* not possible?

I have recently switched from editing using compound clips to using the FCP multicam.
While this workflow is really fast, I find it quite restricting and cumbersome when trying to create vertical content from an existing edit.

Say I want to take a part of a full length video and create an IG reel version:

-you definitely need to reframe
-pip shots won’t work
-any effects added won’t work either

but reframing and creating new arrangements is literally impossible while using multicam (especially when you have PIP shots), unless you duplicate all angles and do a lot of workarounds in order to make it work.

A simple “break angles apart” function would totally solve the issue but it’s not available even on the latest version of FCP.

does anyone have a workflow to suggest for these cases?

Resolve and Premiere do this instantly with one single click in comparison.

many thanks!

Yes this is a shortcoming that has been unaddressed in Final Cut Pro X for years.
I personally use multicam every day because it speeds up my work significantly when working on TV series at a weekly frequency for ten years.
The way I solve it is that when I need to apply image stabilization to a multicam clip, for example, which is not normally possible, I do this by placing the playhead at the beginning of the cut and double tapping on the clip, the multicam window opens and the playhead is automatically placed in the right spot. Using range selection, I select a part of the video from the angle I need, copy it to the clipboard and go back, paste a part of the clip from the clipboard and trim as I need. Then I can apply stabilization to that clip. But this is what I do when I occasionally need to quickly stabilize direct clip.
If I need to put image stabilization on more complex multicam timeline, the other option is to export the fcpxml, open it in XtoCC and save it as xml. Then open that in 7toX and send to FCPX and the multicams will be broken apart.
There is also another option to export the fcpxml, open in Davinci, break apart the multicam clips, export the timeline back to fcpxml and open in FCPX.
Hopefully Apple will work on this in the future. Sometimes I get the feeling that the fcpx developers don't work with the software at all, or are only in contact with a very limited bubble of professionals.
For example, I don't understand why keyframes can't be used for image stabilization, so I can't dynamically adjust the strength of the stabilization. Well, there's a lot of things. So anyway, fingers crossed.

Thanks a lot for this and good to know I am not the only one to experience this frustration.

Breaking apart a multicam clip is something that would make so much sense. In my opinion FCP's MC is way superior to DVR's multicam which is clunky and super buggy with multicam audio.

I am seriously starting to worry about the future of FCP. No big updates for a very long time and it seems the focus has shifted to the iPad app. Which in turn might slow down the desktop's version development as the iPad app has to remain compatible to the desktop app and vice versa.

Hopefully something big is in the works.
