I started to post this as a question, then hit upon a solution so I thought I would share it in case someone else encounters the same problem.
Problem:
When I nest a compound clip inside a project, then transform the compound clip, the contents of the compound clip that extend beyond the edges of clips frame are visible in the project. There are times when this behavior might be desirable, but in my current case it is not. I would like my compound clip to be cropped to its frame.
Solution:
Select the compound clip in the project. Make sure the crop type is set to "Trim" and adjust the cropping to anything greater than zero. By setting my crop values to 0.01 px instead of 0 it crops everything to the frame. I can live with discarding .01 px around the edge of the clip.
