I noticed this about a month ago and posted about it in Apple Communities here: discussions.apple.com/thread/253757258. Several people have confirmed this is broken. I've tried contacting Apple in different ways (support & feedback) to no avail. Does anyone have a clue if this will be fixed?

Hi Nice.. but not nice to hear you have a identical problem to me... I bought a M1 mac and the apple adapters to go from firewire to usb/c thunderbolt on a iMac M1
Thought I was making a smart move with replacing my iMac with a M1 soon faded after the monterey update and now i can't see my ADVC 300/ sony tape deck with fire wire out and also my link on my camera all have never been detected despite 2 days re formatting my Mi and re installing Monterey and starting again....2 days of my life wasted.... so now I'm using my old intel based iMac and big sir its the only thing i have that works for me.
And it seems i can't undo the last Monterey update so feeling ripped off now....

Tape capture does not work with the current OS. Absolutely switch off auto updates in Software Updates and in the App Store. If you can install Big Sur on an external SSD, that would be the best solution at the moment.

Same here... sadly your not alone and no news of a update or a fix, not even a work around.
A lot of us 'still' use old capture i-link or fire wire especially as to date I have not found a analogue capture device to thunderbolt 3

No device will work. The problem is in the OS.

I don't no why my last post did not get posted her bus this is what I found on Apple website about supported Camara's (sorry in Dutch)

support.apple.com/nl-nl/HT204203

No tape based Camara's anymore!

Bus in FCP Manual This:

support.apple.com/nl-nl/guide/final-cut-pro/verd0e78a7e/mac

So it is conflicting (I hope this the right word)

I did a search on Apple's support doc number and the English version is here:
support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204203

This is mainly about file formats that are directly playable by FCP.

However, at the bottom it does say about Firewire and DV recorders being usable. I checked in System Information on Monterey 12.3.1 and the Firewire extensions are still there. I have only just updated to Monterey, but I will have a try with this when I get a chance.

I have previously successfully transferred tapes from a Sony A1E HDV camera in Big Sur, with a TB3 to TB2 adapter, TB2 to FW adapter and even then, a FW800 to FW400 adapter and it worked.

Meanwhile, Firewire from cameras has always been a bit flaky and I have found that some success of making the Mac and FCP see the FW was to have it all connected, even have a tape running so that there's a signal there, and then reboot. Firewire, like USB, works on discovery, in other words you should be able to plug it in and the Mac sees it. Unlike a Firewire disk drive, however, which tries to 'talk' to the Mac as soon as it's powered, I don't think cameras 'talk' to the Mac very well and the Mac doesn't see a FW device if there's no real signal there.

Last, but not least, make sure you're plugged into a Thunderbolt and not just a USB-C port, and maybe no docks in the way.

Just my 10p.

The DV and HDV devices are recognized by the OS in System Information, but the system does not work with them. The problem is specifically in the macOS 12.3.1 update.

Download Big Sur from the App Store. Then you need to create a bootable jump drive with the installer. Search the internet on how to do this with Terminal. Boot onto the jump drive and run the installer onto an external SSD.

Hi thanks for your input but like you i had no problems until the last 12.3.1 update i too found it showed up under system info and even bought a new TB2 to TB3 usb/c connector thinking as it all still worked on my 21.5 Image using a intel processor and had no problems, so i as a last fingers crossed effort ( but now I know Better what's going on) I assumed just maybe I had a faulty adaptor .... But alas no.... all i have now is a spare TB2 to TB3 adaptor....

Ah im almost there im now trying to i think make a bootable USB drive using terminal... but like most things I try to do is only seems to work part way then the problems start.. im afraid I don't fully understand what's going on so I can only follow the instructions word for word....
