Hi Roy, welcome to the forums.

You have a 2012 MacBook Pro 13" i5 with an Intel HD 4000 GPU with shared memory, running High Sierra. That system will never run a recent version of Final Cut Pro. If you purchase Final Cut Pro via the App Store, it will give you the version that will work with your system. Any newer versions that you got via any other way will not work.

Odd that I'm able to run FCP in various versions on a 2009 Mac Pro & High Sierra on some of the computers here so there shouldn't be a reason it won't run on a three year newer machine.

I suggest creating a temporary new user account and see if it runs from that account. If it does then there's a problem with your user account side of things.

It has not so much to do with the age of the computer but with the specs of the MBP and the OS that he runs on it. Officially, you can only run FCP until version 10.4.6 on High Sierra. 10.4.7 requires Mojave. And even then, this basic MBP will underperform with any newer versions of FCP.

I think the OS is the issue.

You can update your MacBook Pro 2012 to Catalina. That should allow you to run FCP as long as your projects are not too heavy and you don't expect any blazing performance.
