I was going to leave this as a comment under the article, but for the life of me I can't get the comment generator to log me into facebook, so I'm asking the group.
Here's the article:
Streamlining Cloud Proxy Workflow in Final Cut Pro X
Can anyone answer these questions?
If the proxy files don't have audio, how does running the proxy files through compressor again to make them smaller, get the audio track back?
Also, I'm assuming that the assistant must already has the original files before handing off the proxies? Correct?
I've never tried using a workflow like this, but would love to start. Plus, I have always kept my editing on one computer, a MacBook Pro, or an iMac for the last few years, but I have never moved projects back and forth for fear of corrupting the databases or screwing up a project. I'd love to learn how to be able to fo that without having to carry a big raid around too, or at least be able to run off an SSD when traveling, but most of these drives max out at 2TB.

He doesn't mean proxy files with audio. He means separately recorded audio used for syncing and multicam clip. Audio that isn't part of the original video file.
The assistant doesn't need the originals. They can work exclusively in pixy and send a transfer library back.

Okay thanks. I just assumed that because of the subject matter of his work, he was using external mics embedded into the camera file).
I did a test last night. Created a new library on an external drive, transcoded some clips to proxy, then deleted the originals files. I could not view the proxy files without the originals. I have searched around here and youtube for how to do that with no luck.
If it is possible to work on the proxy files without the original files, could one export just the audio from the clips separately and sync them to the new proxies?

If the audio is embedded in the camera video file there is no need to export the audio. The proxy files will contain the audio. The only time the proxies don;'t is is the audio is separate and has been synced externally or in the application.
