Have just gotten a new editing machine that is running High Sierra, I just can't get my hands on FCPX 10.4 soon enough!

With what app will demo the full potential of that beast?
Handling a four-stream 8k Multicam...? hm, well, that is one option … but as an editing machine, the iMp is a bit … underused, isn't it?
As part of 's own iMp website, promoting for quiet a while, is this:
As a fan of Motion, I'd say: this is not Motion. Not the one on my Mac …
ok, could be something else, Blender comes to mind, with its new realtime engine, was thrown in by board member Axel - but, really, … a 3rd party app?
Last evidence, to finish my plea, your honor:
there's no event for the new iMp - so, it has to show its powers in some 'self-explanatory' way … one that is eye-catching, every tabloid intern understands within 30secs.
… my 5 ¢ …
(and, yes, I'm aware, for the fun of it, in less than 24h we can stop speculations … if 'available' means 'to carry home')

At least for my needs. But, let's face it, when it comes to compressed acquisition codecs, the processor is the bottleneck and will always be. It's one thing to play back 4k smoothly. Editing really pushes the machine.
Years from now, but continuing, I politely told my Windows buddy that it wasn't *smart* to try and keep all those Mpeg4-stuff native throughout the whole workflow. He shakes his head and still wonders why my comparatively humble computer performs better than his expensive workstation.
I unburden the CPU from the start. It seems my kind of use never actually makes use of 32 GB RAM, so why would I want more? Doesn't it shrink your balls, psychologically, to sit vis-à-vis a powerful (and power consuming) beast, growling idle most of the time, bored by your pathetic fumbling?
I know this sounds exaggerated, but to dream about an iMac Pro is a psychological disease, and exaggerating in the opposite direction is the remedy (or so I hope). My main job is nursing the elderly, and though I do have the cash to buy the entry model tomorrow, I still know that I had to wipe many arses before this sum was gathered again.

Still on Sierra, the stick with HS (latest update) lying on the desk. Once 10.4 shows up, I'll go for it, clean install, complete with APFS, no matter the consequences. I am not that faithful that I wouldn't have a Timemachine backup, but I wonder if I could restore it with the old file system then. Anyway ...

uhm, well…
As I stated frequently, I'm on the very low end of min.specs, but my 6 (six!) years old macMini handles 4-streams AVCHD/mixed formats well… not the way to allow a paying customer look over my shoulder, but I works.
And the nMBpr proofed, lotsa Ram is overrated too… with its super fast, 3GB/s int. SSD, the 'mass drive' can do jobs, what Ram did in the past… Diff. story, perhaps, when you 'shop' and compose several layers of 50Mpix raws from your mid format Hasselblad.
As Spinners are obsolete anyhow, as it seems… I'm one of this silent majority, who has no issues with macOS-HS and FCPX10.3 … and my assumption is, simply 'cause my int'Drive' is an SSD, no spinner, no Fusion… (assumption, not scientifically proofed!).
ok, ok, a +5k$ investment should last for the next 5 years, 16k-pix camcorders are announced, the VR-guys handle umph-tenthousands pixel wide 'globes', … I'm definitely not the target-group for an iMp… LOL
But, again: the smallest iMp is mostly idle when editing 'normal' video, I dare to say.
Not to speak of the 18core monsters!
Very interested, with what or how Apple demoes these machines … actually discovering, again, Particles and Replicators - very quick, too quick I reach the limitations of my tubberbox.- Wouldn't be surprised. when those 'liquid cloth' animations in the iPhone ads are done on some pre-production iMp…
conc. psychology - imho, a matter of hours, when first offers of 'foil kits' are avail to make your 'old' iMac spacegrey...........
(Anybody wants to get rid of his old, obsolete, slow as molasses 5k iMac

Exactly, as I’ve been gotten myself a new editing machine, it makes no sense installing an old system on it... I’m still in the process of installing things etc, but have played around a bit with FCPX, and seen some little oddities... would just be so nice having both a new computer and a new version of FCPXmartin.sawicki wrote: Sure hope they release it tomorrow as i'm on HS and FCPX is really doing weird stuff..

All of the test machines that Apple sent out had a copy of FCPX 10.4 loaded on it and many of the reviews talked about using the new version. Don't think Apple would have sent it out if not ready to go, not for open reviewers.
There is a review by Mike Seymour here… www.fxguide.com/featured/exclusive-hands...ew-apple-pro-lineup/ that mentions FCPX10.4 review coming soon.
Looking forward to reviews of 10.4 and seeing how it works with HS and older computers.
Mike mentions VR and 360 video using 10.4 so that will be interesting as well.
Wish I could afford a new iMacPro, but it would be overkill for the work I do. Still, doing some drooling on my keyboard reading reviews.
Disappointed it does not have upgradable RAM at least. No upgrading at all, so make sure to order what you want. Think it is telling that Apple sent out only the 10 core model with the Vega 64 GPU that has 16GB vRAM. Think all also had at least 64 or 128GB system RAM. That model is not the $4,999 version. Maybe another $1,000 or more??
Here are links to a couple more reviews I found fun to read…

If you do push the Apple Pay button and don't want your old iMac5k, don't throw it away, I'll send you my address
Happy editing, Greg

Not only soon, but:VidGreg wrote: Me Thinks 10.4 tomorrow with launch of new iMacPro. I think you will be able to go into store and pick up some of the models.
