OR: if I resize the default workspace for Effects & Color (two-up scopes, bigger viewer asf.), is there no way to make it stay that way next time I type ctrl+shift+2?

Set up your workspace however you want it (viewer size, custom keyboard shortcuts, scopes on or off, etc.)and then SAVE the workspace with a custom name using "Save Workspace AS" under the Window /Workspaces tab. If you make future updates to it, simply select "Update Workspace". When restarting FCPX, your saved custom workspace should be loaded. Control-Shift-2 calls up the standard "Color and Effects" Workspace which is a specific default size. If you want to resize it, do so and save that as a custom workspace and access it by the drop down menu. The Control-Shift-2 seems to stick with how you resized it if you go back and forth between a custom saved workspace, but I have found it to change back to the default layout if toggling between it and any of the FCPX preset workspaces. Use the Workspaces in the menu to toggle through various layouts that are either standard FCPX workspaces or any custom ones you've created. The last one selected when you shutdown should be the one that opens when you restart.

Yes. No big deal. As someone who always tries to avoid the top menu and rather use the keyboard for navigation, I'd find it an improvement if they let me assign shortcuts to my custom workspaces ...

Custom: >User >Library >Application Support >Final Cut Pro >Workspaces
Default: (Right click on program icon: show package content) >Contents > Resources >Workspaces
1. I duplicated my custom workspace "Color"
2. I duplicated the "Factory 3 - Color & Effects.moduleLayout" (sic!) If at some time I want to restore the original layouts, I can delete "copy".
3. I renamed "Color copy" to "Factory 3 - Color & Effects.moduleLayout".
4. I moved the latter to the program's workspace folder (password required).
!Si! (password again)"Factory 3 - Color & Effects.moduleLayout" already exists - wanna replace it with the new version?
Works. Next time I typed ctrl shift 2 I got my own workspace. Love it.

Found a hack. FCP X stores the "Factory" workspaces and the custom workspaces in different places.

Great workaround! Thanks!
Did anything change in newer versions of FCPx so there is an "official" way to change custom workspaces via keyboard shortcut?
I wonder if apple ever reads those feature requests...
