Hi Community,

I recently saw apple released their latest OS (Mavericks) yesterday but I would like to know if anyone updated to Mavericks and if FCP X is performing fine? Also, is there are site to check where I can see a collection of apps that are optimized for Mavericks?

You will find some similar threads on this forum. Yes you can update FCPX safely but it's always advised to finish any projects you are currently working on before doing this. That's the case with any major update.

No, there is no site yet with a complete list of what works and not with Mavericks, way too soon for that. But you can google "what works with mavericks" and find more threads about different applications and Mavs.

Mavericks install found DivX and a couple of other little things I never use (and don't remember the names of now) and told me they were not compatible. So it does a decent job of letting you know.

Ronny is correct, there is no comprehensive list. I'm running it with Mavericks on my year old 15" rMBP, and have no issues at all.

But always check the developer's web site. Most all major name brand apps work just fine.

Red Giant plug-ins may have some issues, they claim on their web site.

No one has reported anything about other plug-ins yet. But be cautious if you have apps and plug-ins you rely on for your paying work.

Ben/Ronny - do you use Event Manager X? If so any issues with Mavericks? Thanks

Thanks. I found this site that has up-to-date information on application compatibility - roaringapps.com/apps?index=a

A well-known site, but unfortunately it's not really up-to-date. Their database depends on feedback provided by users, so it will take some time before it gets completed. As I said: it's way too soon.

Hey Nick,

Works fine here.

UPDATE: I have received some reports about Event Manager crashing in Mavs. Not happening on my test system but if you have any issues contact info@AssistedEditing.com

I'm loading it now to test. May be the last time I ever launch it. Will be wiping legacy FCP from my Mac today finally.

It is launching REALLY slowly (like it wasn't a slow ass enough launch to start with).

Just stopped at loading the Checkerboard video effect, and froze up. So I'd say NO!

FCP 7, on my 2008 Mac Pro will NOT successfully launch in Mavericks.

okay thanks for the info- i run FCP 7.0.3 on a mid 2011 iMac and i have 10.8.5 and it runs great. i'm afraid to go to maverick and it not launch / open.

funny thing is when one purchased a new mac from say like 2012 and beyond - one cannot install fcp 7 at all to those machines, it's not compatible to even load on - BUT if one already has FCP 7 installed on a machine that is then upgraded to 10.6 -10.8.5 - it works flawlessly - so i asked on this thread thinking that so as long as i have fcp 7 already installed - if i upgrade the OS to mavericks - going along this way of thinking as i described, in theory, it should work. i think...

I am personally declaring FCP legacy apps DEAD as of OS X 10.9.
Time to move into FCP X, legacy users.

I haven't downloaded Mavericks from the App Store yet because when I tried out what was supposedly the GM copy of Mavericks right before it was released Final Cut Pro X wouldn't let me import anything into it. And that's a problem. So, I'm a little hesitant to try Mavericks again until, say, they update FCPX.

I wouldn't call them dead, more like they stop reproducing.
Especially Soundtrack Pro ;)

OK Quick question ... One of the jobs that I use Final Cut X for is to finalise the work done by my students on Final Cut Express. I then take the files .. project capture sctratch etc and open it in Final Cut 7 .. then with the oul 7 to X program I can get a XML that I can use in X and finish off the work that couldnt be finished in Express because of the limitations that Express has.
This is the only way round the fact that 7 to X does not work in Express

Ok finally the question ... will Mavericks let me do this workaround ... will it still open 7 .. have heard that there may be compatibilty issues ??

7.0.3 is working fine here on the release version, checkerboard and all. :-) Also, FWIW, it's been working fine on the last couple pre-release versions, for at least a couple months. While there may well be some issues, I haven't seen any in my (sadly) day to day work on a project cut during that time in 7. I say go for it! Just make sure to DL Quicktime Player 7 if it disappears from your utilities folder during the install. :-)

Sorry, they're not broken yet. Soon enough though I'm sure. 10.10 maybe? ;-)

FYI. My Matrox MX02 Mini stopped showing up for FCPX when I installed 10.9. An uninstall and reinstall of the Matrox drivers did the trick to fix it.

Avid is not recommending people to move to Mavericks yet....

Let see how long it will take for them to get their software updated
