Cripes this article makes me angry. So heavily biased and riddled with beat to death anti-Apple assumptions.
And, YES, there is still and iMovie, jackass! Who's going to believe 10 year old Billy or some Soccer Mom is going to use FCPX to cut home movies? Is this guy crazy?!
And if you're gong to judge FCPX adoption based solely on the top 1% of editors actively switching to it; perhaps the better question to ask is how long did it take for Legacy FCP to gain any significant inroads into Broadcast Film & TV? Go back 2-3 years, who the hell was even thinking about Pr in those areas?
Rage inducing!

- So FCP X ain't all that in his eyes and he doesn't use it. So why is he so angry about it? Yep, he's got emotional issues.
- At the end of the day, I couldn't care less about his uninformed, emotionally charged opinions.
Don't get angry, feel sorry for the guy. He obviously has emotional issues. Just move on, don't allow him to unbalance you. Stay centered, stay focused, have fun.
He has no impact on my students, my colleagues, nor my own business.
Therefore, why bother?

Basically his position is that professional equals post production facility, which is ridiculous beyond words as you watch the amount of video used world wide climbing almost exponentially, while the number of post houses are shutting down almost equally quickly.
I thought legacy FCP put to rest the notion that professional equalled post house. It was only in the last few years of its life that post houses took it on. Who cares?

FCPX still has a PR problem, and while that doesn't impact whether I'll use it- if the perception is persistent enough, it becomes reality for some people. And I'm currently working with people who are planning to change platforms in the next 3-6 months. And when I talk with them, they say all the editors they know say FCPX sucks. It's only because they trust me that they're giving those opinions a critical eye now.

Absolutely true. I'm using X, in a "professional", "Hollywood" setting and yet, some folks working right next to me still parrot the "nobody likes it" BS. Ridiculous. McAuliffe was a big FCP Classic proponent. and I think he falls into the camp of people who feel abandoned by Apple. Now he's pretty much a shill for Adobe and Avid. Whatever. In the grand scheme of things he's irrelevant.
Apple does, however, need to get on the PR tip. They tell me they've got some big things coming, and I keep telling them they should hurry.
Also, the best response to this "article" is to ignore it, hard as that may be. I'm not sure I'll follow my own advise, but I'll try. lol

This has included everything from local TV spots to weddings and mitzvahs to Fortune 100 corporate work and even shows distributed internationally on the sports networks.
There is nothing that I have done in those 30 years, under all of the varying circumstances and clients and approaches taken, that I couldn't have done on FCP X.
So please!! Can it just stop??
Happy Friday everyone!

First that disguised Adobe survey and now this guy... I think some people are really getting nervous about the next FCPX update

Anyone want to guess that even if the updates are really compelling, how many "too little too late" articles we'll have to endure?

As well they should be. Really, most of this junk seems to come from older editors who have a hard time adapting to a trackless workflow. Or they just have abandonment issues. lol
Just like the "Mac's suck!" people in the 90's were usually crusty old IT guys who liked to build their own PC's. Irrelevant.

Thanks for sharing! Interesting read … really!
I'm participating here&then on a tiny German board, slashcam.de, where a few individuals are 'on a mission', endlessly copy/pasting Google&Wiki finds. not getting tired to proclaim "Apple is doomed!"
_____
My business career started in the early 80ies, first contact with a Mac '86 … I eye-witnessed the transition in the PRINT business, from chemicals to Quark, from rub-ons to laser-printers, from scalpel to mouse ...
But the BIG change was well-hidden in that popular word DTP ...
D ... DESKTOP publishing! No laboratory, no Kodak shop, no external fine-drawing …
_____
The loudest nay-sayers and missionaries of "The _fill in Apple product_ isn't Pro!", imho, are members of FABs, of those dinosaurs, working for the Nolans and Camerons and Abrams of this world ...
… but more and more camera-men, travelers, sports-men, adventurists, … make their OWN movies … shorts … clips … YouTube channels … NO NEED FOR FABs!
That author is working for 1.5 decades in such … should I say bloated
History repeats: Desktop Publishing, v2.0.
… and TheTube and FCPX (and BMPC and DaVinci…) are MADE for the future of moving images.,
my 5¢ …
==edit==
while typing missed your post, plysat - same idea, less words!

*Edit - It was the Magma "Roben 3" and "ExpressBox" series.
Anyway, that's not what I originally wanted to rant about. I wanted to point out that I just turned 53 Wed, and I picked up on FCP X super quickly. But then, I'm also a long time FCP trainer. So I could be biased there. BTW, who here is over 40, and who is over 50, and who isn't old enough to get why that matters yet?
Let's take a look at my local FCP users group I've run over the past almost 7 years. Lots of young and old folks in that group. And I'd say it was very well divided about who picked it up quickly, and who was taken aback. No real age division there. What about my classes and seminars for FCP X? 50/50 pros and newbies, 50/50 young and old, and they all were in love with FCP X by lunch the first day of class.
So I'd not go blaming older editors, I'd blame "elitist" editors who are afraid that the big dedicated production houses are now only a drop in the bucket of what the video production industry is made up of. The majority are in-house staff for corporations, universities, etc.
The few elitests are a tiny minority, who used to be 100% of the market, and some of them are now afraid, IMHO. Just like DTP, as very well expressed in an earlier post. Bravo for that one! Cause I was married during those years and my wife at the time (ex now) was a publisher and moved to DTP with my help. We heard all the bashing at that time, too.
At NAB I find very old editors and very young editors, equally, who love FCP X. As well as hate it. Age has nothing to do with it. Being an elitist, closed minded, that's all it is.
Finally, I'll state that there are some folks for whom Media Composer and Premiere Pro honestly are the best choices for them, personally, in their unique situations. So no one NLE is for everyone. That's cool. I know several and we all get along just fine. They actually think FCP X is really interesting, it just doesn't fit their specific needs. THOSE are true, matured editors.
But concerning those who simply "bash", they come from all over the map.
Rant over. I have to get back to work. Tick-tock, tick-tock, deadline is looming and I'm behind, of course.
Which brings up another subject we can all gripe about. Why can't Directors and DP's shoot more like editors need to edit? Geez!

Agreed 100%!
And as to age: I'm 57 and I really like FCPX. BTW: happy B-day, Ben.

Point taken, I guess what i meant was, the most vocal Anti-X crowd seems to be an older demographic, that's all. But your "elitist" characterization is probably more apt. Also, FWIW, I'm older than you.

But, point is, WE use it, WE love it, I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else uses or says about X, and it is Friday, so the drinks are on me!
TGIF!
