Can't figure out the "full stop" for entering timecode.

In FCP Classic and many other NLEs when you use the "full stop" it enters a "00" for you.

So in FCPX if I want to go to a specific time, lets say 1 min 45 seconds I would normally enter:

CONTROL P: "1 - 45 - ." and expect to see 00.01.45.00

However doing this in FCPX results in: 00.02.25.00 a change of 40 seconds.

Any ideas as to what's going on here? if I want to go to anything below 1 minute the "full stop" works as you'd expect. STRANGE.

The higher the value the greater the discrepancy. You have to use 00. Don't know why that is.

I've also seen this, and I also think it's strange.

Especially just if you type in the numbers, you SEE on the dashboard that the numbers it is throwing out, only are correct once you full in every value (hr:min:sec:frames) because otherwise you indeed get other numbers that don't make sense, to my in any case.

Have been wondering about this too.

Anyhow I think Apple needs to do some timecode-work on FCPX. A better dashboard with MAYBE more of a HUD or a timecode HUD. We use to be able to see timecode of the original files, an overlay in the canvas and/or viewer. It was great. Now, we first have to put long clips in compound clips with the same timecode, and with a timecode generator above it, just to make sure to keep things in sync (and yes, we are talking about visuals where you cannot visually see if they are in sync unless you are a doctor, which I'm not, we do a lot of medical videos).
The good thing is that FCPX has such a great engine that, once you work in Prores, it has no difficulty playing back 5 layers of unrendered compound clips with a timecode generator on each of them back.

Also being able to use AUX timecode, being able to copy/paste timecode values, etc. ...

Thanks guys. Glad to know it's not just me.

I'll revert to using "00" hard to do after 22 years of "." as I just do it without thinking.

Oh well. Old Dog, New Tricks.

I'll submit a bug report.

I know it doesn't help, but I can't replicate this on my system. If I key in "1 . 45 ." and hit enter it goes to 1:45:00

Everything else I tried worked as expected.
