I'm serious..I guess I'll never be able to leave FCP7.
Ok,FCPX its cool, has great potential, but for now ,at list for me, FCPX is far to be
the main software.

I miss rountrips ( with motion and color)
I miss audio mixer
I miss multiple sequences

I miss a lot of stuff fcp 7 has and fcpx hasn't.

A very very very simple (and maybe insignificant ) example:
try to mark in / out ONLY for audio in storyline ( like opt+cmd I / O in FCP7)
it's very simple ,but is not possible in fcpx

where's the updates?

Well, for what it is worth....
Updates are coming...
You can use a program like Magic Bullet to colorize and that will roundtrip with FCPX...
There are a few ways, albeit a bit clumsy, to export portions of your timeline, nonetheless it can be done...
Multiple sequences can be replaced to an extent with compound clips in FCPX....
Audio mixer...well, not exactly in FCPX but you can still deal with multiple audio channels (might put that one on the wish list)..

But...everything else is doable.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Saying that you'll never be able to leave FCP7 is pretty backwards thinking. Even if you don't migrate to FCPX, eventually you'll have to move on to something. Especially if you are a professional and make any sort of living.

When you've used a modern NLE capable of processing footage like H.264 in real time, playing back multiple effects and layers on the fly without having to render, embarking on the incredibly powerful tools and workflows with a new metadata mindset... then you'll begin to see how much of dinosaur FCP7 really was.

Believe me, I was a HUGE fan of FCP7 - yes there are some things I still miss... but they've been completely outweighed by the joy and ease in which tools like FCPX have now fit into my professional workflow.

I have been using FCP X from day one. Older projects were finished off in FCP6, but new ones were started in X. While X was a bit lacking in the first version, it has matured very fast. I went that far that I completely took FCS from my machines after exporting projects to XML.

I got CS6 meanwhile, but I can't see me doing much in Premiere. It just feels too clumsy, even though it is a nice piece of software. The same's with FCS. My summer intern was given the choice between X, 6 and Premiere. She choose 6, as that is what they use at her high school. I had hard times to explain her things following the "old paradigm" when I got used already to the new one. X is spoiling you.

Not moving away from FCP7 is the worst decision you could ever take, you can wait as long as you can, but someday you'll have to change systems because FCP7 is EOL.

I'm talking from experience here, I worked on Avid Mediacomposer since 2001 and I think is the real king for video editing (please don't throw stones to me!) but I changed works a year ago and in this new company they only work with FCP7 (and they don't want to move away), so I learned it (I think it does the job, but Avid is still better) and on my spare time at home I learn FCPx (which I consider it was taken out of the oven way before it was done, but is interesting to learn, besides all its deficiencies ).

My advice would be to know about the other systems (FCPx, Mediacomposer, Premiere CS6 or Smoke 2013) find which one fits better for your daily work and start learning it on your spare time with small projects, or do as I do... I replicate the things I do at work on FCPx at home to understand it and know what it can and can't do.

But sooner or later you'll have to move. Just my 2 cents.

Well we know the Audio Mixer is coming, round tripping could just do it like before just export it as XML (if supported) or a QT.
Multiple sequences... I know what you mean but I figure why not just use multiple projects...
In and Out in Projects who knows maybe the next update?? ;)

We "know" an audio mixer is coming? How do we "know" that? That would be cool, but I've not seen any word from Apple about a mixer. Just "Multichannel audio editing tools", which may or may not be an "Audio mixer". I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Multiple Sequences, we have that, they're called Compound Clips.
