Client review with timecode notes
Right now, I've been using NoteVid, which utilizes vimeo or youtube to host and then sends out an email and allows them to enter in notes corresponding to the timecode. However, exporting and uploading one at a time to vimeo, as well as several versions, is clunky and slow. And the timecode notation doesn't work half the time. Super buggy (but FREE).
Seems Adobe ClipNotes is gone and now part of their paid service.
What are people using? I am doing a lot of client work that needs review and looking for a good solution.

I never used it, but QT Movie NoteTaker could be another option to your list, but you have to tell your client to install a new software and explain how to use it.

1. Watch video via the web
2. Batch upload ability
3. Timecode notes
4. Notification when the recipient views and makes notes via email.
5. Client doesn't need to sign up for anything special.
Anything out there that does this?

There was a "Solo" pricing level, but that seems to have disappeared. If you're sneaky, you can sign up for it here , but I'm not sure if they'll honour that because it's not actually listed in the pricing page, they just haven't deleted the Solo page.
Disclaimer: never used them, just found them. Reviews seem positive.

I'm one of the founders of ScreenLight. Our service is designed to do exactly what you are looking for fcpguru.
- Create a project
- Upload batches of videos in virtually any format
- Invite people to view videos with a username and password or a shared link like Google Docs
- Specify different permissions for each participant (view, comment, upload, download)
- Attach time-codes to comments
- Review videos on iPhone and iPad
- Brand the application with your logo & corporate colors
We transcode all videos for online playback and keep everything safe and secure with SSL encryption.
We do in fact have a solo plan available for $24/month. The only way to get to it right now is to signup for a free 30-day trial and then downgrade to the plan. The sneaky way might also work. Kudos to you for figuring it out
Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.
Cheers,
Chris

I'll for sure check it out. One question - do my clients have to sign up for any thing? They aren't the most tech savvy bunch, so I prefer to just be able to send them a link like I can do on NoteVid (which THEY love, but presents a total time-suck logistical nightmare for me. If I upload 10 videos, I have to send 10 separate links and type in their email every time... but as I said, it is free and works with private youtube and vimeo links)
Looking forward to taking a spin

1. Username and password. When you invite someone to view videos in this way, they are automatically sent an email with instructions on where to access the site, and how to login. The first time they login, they will be asked to create a password (the username is their email address). They are essentially creating an signing up (we don't limit the number of people you can invite into your account).
2. Private sharing link. For each project you can create a private sharing link (like Google Docs). Anyone who you send the link to will be able to click it and be logged into the project without having to enter a username and password. The link is randomized to prevent people from guessing the address of project videos.
Some people like the security of usernames and passwords, while others like the simplicity of just sending clients a link and not dealing with the headache of forgotten passwords.
In either case, the project structure should simplify your workflow. When you grant someone access to a project, they will see all of its videos. You won't have to bother with sending them separate links for each video.
Whew!! Sorry for the long answer. Look forward to getting your feedback!

1. You can't sync the playback to FCPX like you could with 7 (theoretically, never tried).
2. Importing the markers requires you to import a new XML, which messes up fonts on some titles, certain effects, etc. Super buggy.
3. It isn't a remote note solution.
BUT it is fantastic for watching a feature and feeling the flow and marking places to take a look at later.

2. Is that in FCP 7 or FCPX? Can you send me a project that experiences this?
3. Coming soon.

Jon: Thank you for your response! I hope I didn't come across as too negative - I do use and LOVE CutNotes. Looking back on the sequence, every instance where a title or effect didn't translate was because it was contained inside a compound clip. Also several compound clips where the audio was disabled on the video track (these are compound because they were synced using the synchronize clip tool) had the video track turned completely off when I reopened it in FCPX.
I suspect these may be more bugs to do with the flavor of XML rather than CutNotes, but it may be worth testing and putting a note on the site.

We also launched our cloud workflow platform, Kollaborate, earlier this year. It has the usual features of a private video sharing site (playback, sharing, notifications, etc) alongside team management and tight integration with Digital Rebellion apps.
The Cut Notes integration is especially strong. You can sit in a screening room with other people, have a shared note-taking session while you're all synced to the same playback source (FCP, Pro Tools, etc) and see each other's notes appear in realtime. The notes are all stored in the cloud and you can easily export them back to your NLE.
As mentioned earlier, Cut Notes isn't designed as a playback tool but that's because we already have a tool for that called CinePlay. It's also Kollaborate integrated, can create cloud comments and export markers to an NLE.
Kollaborate is well integrated with most of our tools (Cut Notes, CinePlay, Post Haste, Preference Manager) with more coming soon. Best of all, businesses can run Kollaborate in-house for unlimited storage space, additional features and complete control of their data.

Have you looked at Light Iron TODAILES and or LIVE PLAY 2.0 for on set... also there is COPRA .

I love that I get notified when someone makes a note on the video and I love the integration with cine play (which has come in handy on set when referencing other shots).
Arc9 looks cool, but its much too pricey for my shop. I've looked into light iron's stuff, but they seem more like tools used for dailies and seem to miss some of the ease that a specific review system calls for.
So, just to answer my own question, Kollaborate has been amazing for my business this year. Thanks Jon for your amazing work! I'm looking forward to seeing how else the service will continue to grow and improve.
