it is a standard feature - so your logic is correct

select your clip, click analyze sound, then noise reduction

The issue may be development costs.
I use Neat Video. It does a great job. It's a slow render even on a fast computer.
Apple would have to start from scratch since, in this case, they don't own any pre-existing technology for this that I know of.

I haven't known of any noise reduction that came standard...could be wrong. I also have CS6 with Boris Continuum and it's noise reducer...I like it. So I just run clips through that. Like Neat Video...very slow render times.

Try taking steps to eliminate or at least drastically minimize low light shooting. Nothing good ever comes of it, especially with HD.

The problem with that is this: as editors we rarely ever have any control of what the cameramen are shooting. Post is the end of the chain, and we just get handed the footage and have to deal with it as best we can. If the footage has video noise then its good to have some noise reduction options. Telling the producer to film it again with more light is rarely an option for an editor.

I use Neat Video, and it works pretty well.

Ah, yes, Simon...good point. IF your handed noisy footage it is a different matter all together. I was assuming the OP was shooting his own footage.

Maybe send a copy of this post to the cameramen ;-)
