Steve Martin is joined by Alexis Van Hurkman this time on MacBreak Studio to talk about Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve. A great 15 minutes worth of information.
Steve Martin has swapped out his on screen partner Mark Spencer for writer, director and colourist Alexis Van Hurkman. This is because Alexis gives us a fantastic 15 minute introduction to Blackmagic Design's colour grading application called DaVinci Resolve.
When Apple killed off Color, it left a void in the Mac based vertical of post production apps. Blackmagic have filled that space with Resolve and in the video the guys are showing Lite, the free version that can be downloaded for Windows, Linux and of course OS X. (Scroll to bottom of page) Pretty amazing that this tool set which once commanded thousands of dollars is now free to anybody who wishes to use it, hobbyist to pro, webcast to broadcast. It makes an ideal finishing tool for Final Cut Pro X editors who want more colour correction than an NLE can provide and it also supplies some FCP7 sequence translation tools.
This industry strength grading app needs good training and this first 15 minute introduction serves as a good taster of Alexis' extensive commercial Resolve tutorials from Ripple Training.
Many thanks to the guys, we are looking forward to the next two parts of the introduction.
