Five years on from the launch of Color Finale for Final Cut Pro X, we have the announcement of the upcoming V2.1 update.

When Color Finale was launched five years ago, it was the first colour correction tool in FCPX that gave editors access to the traditional curves and wheels that the Color Board lacked.

Things have moved on, not only within FCPX, but also with Color Finale. Today, on the popular colour grading tool's fifth birthday, an update has been announced that will be available in early April.

There's also a special offer to celebrate, Color Finale 2 (macOS) is now $50 (normal price $99) and Color Finale 2 Pro (macOS) is $75 (normal price $149). This offer runs from today until midnight GMT Tuesday 24th of March. All discounted purchases from today will be eligible for the V2.1 update.

Promotion has now finished.

So what's coming in the V2.1 update? Key enhancements include:

  • Inside/Outside Mask Grading – enables color grading on both sides of a mask
  •  Image Mask – modulates the effect of a color grading layer with the selected clip
  • Copy & Paste Masks Between Layers – creates compound mask effects
  • Smoothness – reduces sharp image details e.g. faces

Oliver Peters will be testing out the update for us, watch this space...

When the company reorganised, the team promised new features that would give more powerful colour correction tools to FCPX. April's update looks like a good step on the way and at half price at the moment is good value.

Here's the original demo video from the launch  back in December 2019.
