Thanks. That explains where all these Gap clips are coming from. |

Yea, the Dual Viewer does work like MC's Trim Window but it's confusing because of the way Gang works. April? Not Dec. 21, 2012? ![]() |

Given that adding a viewer and mixing tools is going to be a paradigm shift for the program I'd be surprised if we see anything aside from bug fixes this side of X-mas.

Welp! Nuthin' today obviously. Next Tuesday is still in line with the timing of past updates- after that, I got nuthin' but egg on my face.
Seanus- Those two features (along with RED and MXF support) have been pre-announced for 2012, and nothing gets released close to Christmas. I admire your staunch pessimism (easy to not be disappointed), but these features will have been in the works for a long time- it's not like they just started working on them after 10.0.5 was released. I obviously can't say for sure, but it would seem logical to me that one group within the FCPX team is working on bug fixes while others are working on ongoing UI improvements and new features. So these two key features have probably been in the works since 10.0.3 was locked down. |

Given that when FCP X first launched Apple stated that Multicam was coming. 6-7 months later we got it. Also 10.0.2 was released in November.
It was April when Apple stated that we would be getting Dual Viewers and Mixing Tools. They also stated that these features would need to be "better than before" so I honestly think we'll be lucky if we get them by late October. Hope I'm wrong but I'm not sweating bullets over it as the program is working just fine for me. What I really hope we see at least by early next year is true collaborative editing. This to me is now Apple's biggest hurdle in gaining acceptance in the big production facilities. Sean Lander - Editing since 1982 - AVID 1991 - FCP 1999 - FCPX 2011

Something more than CatDV does with FCP X now, for sure. Yep, the update comes when it comes. I have plenty of work to keep me busy until then. I'm sure we'll all be giddy as little kids when it's released no matter what it does or doesn't have. Programming is a long, slow, difficult process. I'd rather be editing...
I did notice a couple of weeks ago a fourth item was added to the list of coming features on the FCP page. "MXF Pluging Support". Whatever the heck that means. That's like "audio channel tools". What the heck does that mean? |

Tim,
Really excellent video! I had seen most of the others you've made, but missed this one. I liked your trick at the end with the 59:59:00 timecode fix. I don't believe I ever would have come up with that as an option. I bookmarked your user at youtube and I'll take a look again at the others you've uploaded too. By the way over the last year or two, I've seen you as "T", "Tim", and "Timothy". I believe I first saw "Tim", so that's what I tend to remember you as. Any problems with that or should I move over to "T". (Or, call me whatever you want, just don't call me late for dinner [cymbal crash]). Thanks, Dave |

![]() My given name is the long version, but my older brother could never pronounce it, so I have gone by T. my entire life. The only reason I used Timothy is the Creative Cow didn't recognize T. as a real name. ![]() BTW. I don't do much on my youtube channel with FCP X, unless you want to see some videos from church camp or my family. My new tutorials will be on the Cow. |

T, I'm there and here too, so I should see it when the next tutorial pops up. I'm still surprised I missed the above mentioned tutorial, but I was glad I caught it. Thanks, Dave |

Here's an idea. Instead of connecting to the clip below you click Contol and Option and connect the clip to the time! How good would that be?! So you have a little connection stem going UP that denotes that this clip is connected to a specific time code. Would be great for music videos.

Too much like having to do "work". The FCP dev team always finds a way to make it way better. I'll wait to see what they come up with. I'm confident that if they do this, it will be so stupid easy a brain dead monkey could do it. I personally can't imagine how, but I'm putting my money on the FCP dev team. They have a pretty good track record so far.
Every feature release has been far ahead of anything we end users suggest. Fortunately. No reason to think that trend won't continue. Crossing my fingers, placing my bets. But mostly crossing my fingers. Everything they've done so far has simply blown us away. I see no reason to not keep the faith. Money down, fingers very tightly crossed, waiting patiently. And in the mean time... I'm not worried cause I'm preparing for a "date". You guys know what that is? Yeah, enough said. (just kidding, I'm sure you all have had a date at least once) ![]() |

Actually, that has been there since the NAB announcements. From Larry's blog post at the time. "FCP X has been able to read MXF files (think XDCAM EX), but not the native MXF wrapper that contains them. In the past, it needed to convert MXF to QuickTime. In the future, FCP X won’t need to make this conversion. Apple was quick to stress that this was not a move away from QuickTime, instead it was adding support for a common video format." So I assume it will be like h.264 (or presumably RED) injest where you'll have the option to optimize on import or use the raw media, depening on performance. |

Yeah MXF not a real buggy as both Canon and Sony have already stepped up to the plate.
Still it will be nice to have it "in built" but I'd rather Apple spends it's time working on the more important features. Sean Lander - Editing since 1982 - AVID 1991 - FCP 1999 - FCPX 2011

I don't know about Sony, but I get my Canon XF files into X without any issue. The only problem I have is that X doesn't let me optimize these files, and forces me to edit MPEG2. On the other hand, I can get the files "natively" into CS6, but it runs some "conforming" in the background that slows me down to a crawl (non CUDA GPU). |

Between making funeral arrangements and Hurricane Issac, I'm not going to notice. Ugh... There are so many other things I'd rather be doing than preparing for another stupid hurricane...

If it's Tuesday it must be FCPX watch day.
There's too much going on today. Bad news day for Apple and the viral online spread of any commentary so they'll wait until next week. |

Wha? What bad news? the JAVA stuff...?
I don't see why that would affect them releasing updates to the appStore at all. These releases are planned months in advance, and news of the day isn't going to affect them, IMHO. We may see a release today, or we may not, but at 78 days since 10.0.5 this is the longest update cycle since 10.0.1 (92 days). |
